This week at E3, South Park creator Trey Parker poked fun at Microsoft’s new “Smart Glass” feature for Xbox, calling it a way to “Watch my television, while hooked into my mobile device, which is being controlled by my tablet device, which is hooked into my oven — all while sitting in the refrigerator”. However, Microsoft has officially confirmed that these features are real and will arrive by early 2013.
A Microsoft Spokesman commented, saying “We know that Mister Parker was only kidding, but we’re really going to let you control your Xbox from inside your fridge. It’s not like we have any other big ideas at the moment.’
“I mean our most innovative new games are Halo 4 and Gears of War 4. If we don’t put our people to work on this refrigerator idea, we’re going to be back here at E3 next year with nothing but some Smash Brothers rip-off where the Halo guy fights the Gears guy.”
Details and exact release date aren’t available at the time of writing, but “Smart Fridge” is estimated to arrive in the first quarter of 2013, according to Microsoft’s Spokesman:
“I mean it took us two years to teach Bing how to understand Spanish. You know what the Spanish word for Xbox is? It’s “Xbox”! But, whatever, let’s just say we’ll have the Smart Fridge thing up by February”.
The DoEE will have more on Smart Fridge as it develops.
